Obsession

Ok, I admit, I am obsessed with having a motor home. I have all of these dreams of camping out with the family, and roasting marshmallows. Hiking in the woods, and fishing in the lakes. I also have always wanted to visit ever state in the Union, so an RV is great way to do that. The bad part is they are out of my price range. Even a decent used one is around 7K and I just can't warrant spending that kind of $$$. My wife suggested starting out with a pop-up, which is a good idea.....but I really like the idea of a full sized RV. The solution? How about a school bus? I found that you can buy a school bus for around $1000.00 and convert it to an RV with as little or as much $$$ as you want. I have been researching the topic of school bus conversion for the past couple of days, and I am sold on the idea that it is the way for us to go. It won't look as cool as a real RV, but it is built sturdier and safer for my family. I like the idea of doing whatever we want with the inside, and painting the outside what ever color we want. Though I can afford to buy one with my play money; I am still talking it over with the wife, because it is such a large in size item that it will directly effect her. Plus I want her on board, because I love doing projects with her. I think she would be awesome at doing the layout of the bus. she can also use her new sewing machine to make us curtains, and seat covers. As far as decorating goes, I think it would be fun for the whole family to add their own touch. I definitely want to have a place on the bus that has each of our hand prints, so we know who put the work in on it. Though they would make fun of me for the purchase; I also think that Bob and Mike would have fun helping me do the inside, and William may even have some fun playing with the engine. It would be a nice to have it down at the lake house at times, so people had their own space, and didn't have to worry about breaking other peoples nick knacks.

I can list off pluses all day long, but I think I am supposed to be fixing computers or something, so I will stop for now. I will say that the obvious negatives will be cost, though it is cheap, and I am all for using free and really cheap stuff to finish it, it will still cost some money. Plus it will cost a lot in gas when traveling. That is to be expected, but I am trying to be realistic when thinking about negatives. Time is another; it will take a lot of time and effort to get it the way we would want it. Though it will be usable before it is complete, it will still suck. Some people would list that fact that it is still a bus as a negative, but not me. I like that it is different, and I like the idea of using something that would otherwise sit in a dump somewhere.
